Oriah Wiersma was born and raised in Cobourg Ontario, and from Cobourg to her current life in Toronto has continuously participated in the arts community. From an early age she trained in piano, violin, and singing. She attended Peterborough Collegiate and Vocational School where she majored in drama. She recently graduated from the York University BFA dance program where she was a company member of the York Dance Ensemble for two consecutive years. During this time she performed in numerous shows, including a solo choreographed by Holly Small for Johanna Burgfelt entitled a drowning. Currently, Oriah is in the process of choreographing Murray Schafer’s musical drama The Spirit Garden, is a member of the Garage Collective, and works as a free-lance dance artist. Her recent performances include Earthdancers as a guest artist, Glaciology by Brandy Leary for Nuit Blanche, Fall Immersion at Hub 14, ProArteDanza’s summer intensive at The Winchester Street Theatre, and Mezzotint at the Citadel.
